Ocean Ambassadors program

Why become an Ocean Ambassador?

During this program, you will take scientific information about our oceans and use it to understand 1) how different communities relate to their natural environment, 2) how the natural environment  changes with time and 3) the steps that can be taken to improve the future of our environment and communities. Using the resources available at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, you will be able to explore your own  connections with the ocean and tell your story.

Through this program, you will learn how to use ocean data to understand climate patterns. Variables like seawater temperature, seawater salinity, current speeds, species population numbers, and storm frequency all change with time. You will become familiar with the processes that lead to these changes and learn how scientists use data to predict where the effects of climate change will be greatest. You will also explore the possible steps we can take to mitigate the problems created by climate change.

The Ocean Ambassadors Program aims  to build resilience in the new generation through data-based education using information that is  readily available to the public. Armed with information, we can understand what needs to be done to improve the quality of life in our communities and the health of our oceans.
